HERE’S HOW TO GET YOUR NEWS ON SYRACUSE.COM AND IN THE POST-STANDARD
What to send
Please send your release two weeks before you’d like to see your event or announcement publicized. Notices of upcoming events may be published in a calendar or may warrant coverage by a reporter or photographer.
Releases about upcoming events or activities are more likely to be posted than information about meetings or events that already happened. However, notices of business promotions, elections of club officers, results of civic projects or fund drives are some exceptions to that guideline.
Keep your release short and to the point. Check the spelling of names and provide titles. Include a contact name, email address and phone number.
Photos submitted with releases should be high-quality digital images. Do not send printed copies of photos. When submitting a digital image by email, leave the image as it is, and send it as a .jpg file. Name the photo with one short word — probably the event or the subject’s last name — and add .jpg (eg. smith.jpg or carnival.jpg). Also, write the first and last name of the person in the photo or the full name of the event in the email’s subject field. Include details about the event in the email.
